Hi, I have a new Meade LX90 10" LNT with Autostar version 40EF. Although I've had it for 6 years I've only just started to use it now. I have performed a reset on Autostar after fitting new battery to LNT module. Telescope mount is set in ALT/AZ position.

When switched on, Autostar reads Press 0 to align or Mode for menu. On pressing 0 to align the scope goes through re-levelling, finding north, finding tilt, finding level & then starts slewing to the point where it tries to go over the vertical on the mount at which point I have to switch off as the motors are straining.

This exercise is being performed in the afternoon. In the evening this does not occur. Am i doing something wrong?

Cheers

Have you set the Autostar to reflect what part of the world you're in (page 18 of the manual (http://www.meade.com/manuals/TelescopeManuals/LXseries/LX90-LNT.pdf)) also, I seem to remember that there is a calibration process page 54 of the same manual on the LNT that needs to be done after changing batteries. It is my unerstanding that during the calibration you don't need to point to Sigma Octans just the correct declination elevation and due south should suffice. from memory the last time I did mine was in broad daylight in the lounge room.

You may also want to research what, if any, significant bugs existed in your firmware version, I've tried at least half a dozen builds, each had their own problems, it's really a matter of finding a build with the least amount of bugs for your needs.

Thanks for your advice. Yes, I have initialized Autostar for Auckland NZ & reset time/date. Have also carried out re-calibration from set-up menu. Still have the same problem.
