O.K. subject matter has been touched on before....but here's my H-alpha take on it....

Lovely detail, contrast and a three-dimensional feel for only 80 mins.

Start of an interesting image. Well detailed.

Aaaaand, that's how it's done, ladies and gentlemen. :)

Stunning!
Very sharp to the extreme corners. Now that's a scope that appears to be working right out of the box. :eyepop:

Thanks John.. I needed to shim the camera faceplate a touch, but otherwise have been very happy with the scope.

Well, gee, :thanx:
Pondering colour...but rain this morning doesn't make me hopeful
I look at it this way:"only" 80 minutes with the RHA is like 320 minutes with the six inch...a much deeper exposure would not have revealed much more detail, but would have pulled down the noise a bit.

Very nice Peter, particularly for only 80 minutes. Pity you couldn't get NGC 6164/6165 in. Mosaic?
Cheers

Ta Steve. Lack of time as usual, but weather permitting...will look at mosaicing out to 6164 ;)

Pic looking nice and sharp indeed. Had SBIG calibrated the sensor alignment in the 16803 in the factory before you started tweaking it with the shims?

Ta Phil. As a matter of fact, yes, all "big chip" SBIG cameras have their CCD orthogonality set. I've personally seen the calibration bench.
However, small errors in the CFW, 3.5" adapter and focuser all add their part after that. The total error (~5 micron) would probably go un-noticed with smaller sensors and/or slower optical systems.

You should, it has the potential of being a best ever.
Greg.
Stunning vista. Please tell me you've used some high pass filtering or other contrast enhanching processing on just the central "wavefront" however Peter? (worried you'll say "no" most likely). Such incredible tight detail in that central zone courtesy of RHA.

Another corker! :eyepop: The contrast is mind blowing. I can't believe the stars for 40min subs. That's unheard of.
I think you might have a very slight rego error on the top right of the field. Doesn't look like a drift but more like a guiding jump. One small star next to a fatter one. Unless they're all doubles but it seems to be a pattern.
Just noticed pixel peeping the original for a half hour with an older shot of mine seeing how much of my blurry stuff matched your incredible details.
Anyway your shot motivated me enough to get out and image it again last night for the 100th time.

Thanks for the feedback Marc....Im away from home for a few days, but looking at it with my iPad...yes! Looks like a guiding...or possibly registration stuff up. Will investigate next week!

There is a little global sharpening due MaxImCCD's DDP filter kernel....which I normally avoid, however it worked OK in this instance....But..sorry to disappoint, I didn't apply a local filter to middle bit....just a few global curves and layers.

You guys have bionic eyes. I can't see it. Looks great to me.

You can't really see it unless you zoom x2 or x3. :P I was really pixel peeping the shot at x3 I think in PS comparing to one of my earlier hyperstar shots and noticed a lot of doubles I couldn't resolve with my system. Some of them had the exact same pattern which I though was a little too repetitive. Needless to say that a lot of those doubles are also real. It's an incredible rig, in expert hands I might add.
