Thank you Mike. You're definitely right too - the smaller rangefinder cameras are getting me out and about again. One body usually stays with its lens for the entire day - and the airshow was primarily shot with the digital M8 and its 40mm f/2 fitted and not removed. It's so refreshing having to use the lens you have on, and find scenes for it, rather than simply zoom everything to fit by carrying and swapping a plethora of 1kg lenses all day. The only regret is the the M8's software will only address a 4Gb card, which is just on 370 shots. I like to take a thousand in a day. LOL At least 4Gb SD cards are cheap! :)

What would you say to a street shoot in Sydney one day?

True, it's not always a bad thing though. One photographer's book I read said that he shoots on many 4GB cards rather than one large card, because if the card dies or gets corrupted, you haven't lost your whole days work - only a bit of it :)
I guess it's not a bad idea, just not very convenient :)


Would love to - I need some more practise with the camera and I generally don't do that sort of photography so it would be a learning experience for me.

Would a lunch-time session be long enough (1-2 hours during work day), or are you talking half a day type thing?

I agree with you Mike - smaller cards are cheaper, and you'd lose less if one was damaged or lost. I run a 16Gb card in my 5D-II and I'm constantly worried about it. It's premium price card, so it should be ok.... operative word being "should".

I reckon a lunch-time jaunt would be great! I'm not in town often (working from home), and when I am there it's at our office in Rozelle - but I'd be very happy to drive or bus it in and meet up down at the Rocks or Circular Quay for an hour or two. It'd be brilliant to still be working in the AAP tower (if it's still even called that...LOL) again. I'd be out every lunch hour snapping away! I think that if you tried street you'd love it. Capturing life, and not things - it's actually quite exciting :)

Love the 'old world' feel of these shots and the subject matter is the perfect vehicle for them.

When I used to shoot for a motor cycle mag I was dead set paranoid about losing data due to card failure and used 2 and 4gig cards.

Mind you, have never had a problem (always format the card after each download) and still have (and use) the 512mb cards that came with my D70 ten years ago....

Thanks for the kind words Deeno :) I also format my cards between each and every shoot. Simply deleting images, and worse-still having your capture program do it for you, leaves cards in an awful state - folders and sub-folders everywhere.

LOL Rowland! - I was going to call it that, but none knows what an empennage is! The word fuselage is more familiar to most, but I do love the former as a word. :)

Indeed it would Peter. One of my favourite aircraft of all time. Goblin engines sound superb, and the twin-boom tail. MmmMMMmmm :)

I guess that it depends on what strikes you most in the photograph - the rivets and fuselage or the dark flying surfaces above. The subject could be either...

I had to look closely to recognise the flying surfaces and place the image at the tail of the aircraft. Very old world look. Very effective.

Adam - the new full-frame M9 "Monochrom" was announced and released yesterday - Leica's dedicated black and white M9.

I WANT. :thumbsup: They are going to be fantastic for black and white-only photographers. I can't wait to see lots of example images from this thing.

They also released their spanking-new Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH APO lens yesterday. A cool $7,500 - $8,000 for a 50mm lens. Not bad eh? LOL...

Very nice Leica digital too - used to collect the M series but no longer interested - must get one of these Leica digitals to try

Well, my digital Leica is still an M-series.... an M8. I'm going to look at the new X2 shortly as it's just been released. A zoom f/2.8 Elmarit lens - very nice.
