I got home and there was some high thin cloud over the supermoon creating a beautiul ring.

It didn't last long. I got the new camera and took several shots of it.

I also took one at ISO6400 and it held up well.

Nice effect Greg, like the ring and youve captured some stars too - Scorpius to the lower right.

Fantastic Halo!
Love it!

The dynamic range of the D800 is clearly clearly clearly an advantage here, I've tried to take similar images and I know I can't do that on a single shot.

Bow!

Thanks Josh. Yes I was surprised when a few turned up.

The camera definitely has the best dynamic range of any camera around.
Better than even medium format 16 bit CCD cameras like Hassys and Phase One (from actual side by side tests) by a large margin too (mainly in the shadows not so much the highlights).

Cheers. I did a few at ISO6400 and it was quite clean and made night look like day. I think ISO6400 will be useful in astro shots on this camera much like 5D3 at high ISO although 5D3 will go ISO12800 in Jpegs and still be clean.

I plan to do some night high ISO shots soon once the moon rises a bit later and see how it performs.

Greg.

Gee, one ten second exposure. Damn impressive.
Unthinkable with the old D200. I'm seething with jealousy.....
