Very Large Lagoon and Trifid Widefield

I managed to get hold of some more webspace and I thought I would splurge some of it on a very large picture. Zoom right in and see the detail.

This gives some idea of how a very high resolution picture looks. The original is a 73m Tiff.

just run your fine pic through Gradient Xterminator and neutralised the sky background, what do you think? Theres a wealth of detail in the full size pic.

Yes I puposely put up a version that only had curves and levels 'adjusted' as I knew people would want to play with it. I have never been really happy with GX when threre is so much detail present.GX seems to flatten the colour in the star clouds. It could also be possible that one loses it after 'processing' the same image for too long. Thats why I have been putting a 2.7" focuser on the 80ED and 100ED to minimise vignetting so there are no gradients to remove or minimise.
Any advice appreciated. I really should bite the bullet and obtain Imagesplus and learn how to use it.

Details Canon 5DH. Hutech LPR filter,100ED with Astro Physics focal reducer working at a reduction of 0.71, so 640mm FL and F6.4, ISO 800, 11X180s, stacked with Registar, only adjusted curves in PS.

You won't be sorry if you buy Images Plus, it's a little hard to learn at first.
I just follow the video tuts and there's always members here willing to help.

I was elated by the results after just applying flat field frames.
But it has so much more to offer.
Well worth it.

Very impressive, looks like a good combination the 5D + ED-100, dont know if ill ever come by an 5D, but thinking about the ED100, could you let me know the weight of your ED-100 ive looked at the SAXON web-page but no details re weight (approx. weight will do fine), its a bit long but think I can mount one in place of the ED80 on top of the LX200-10" with a bit of weight adjustmet.

I like all the nebulosity you picture shows up in the M20/M8 area, very good effort.

Hi Jim the total weight of the 100ED OTA is 2.7kg. It is not much heavier than the 80ED.

O.K. thanks for that info., im amaized that they dont give the weight of it or the ED80 anywhere, It looks like a good value for money scope, just a bit long, but one cant have everything, I see the ED80 was so popular they have brought out a de-lux model with finer focussing.
