Hello,
Those who have met me have no doubt heard of some idea or project that I have been working on at some various stage of completion. Anyway, one device I have been working on is a Solar Autoguider, and it would seem that I have finally captured the fine balance between optics and electronics, and when coupled with the software I have written for image sequencing allows for some interesting results.

The linked video is my work from Friday, it was made by capturing

400x 20 second avi's that where batch converted into individual images with AVI Stack which where then in turn converted into an AVI. The telescope was a 40mm Coronado pst and dmk 41 camera

My Autoguider worked perfectly, I did however run into some trouble of a cable kind which caused me to have to restart my software, consequently there is a small change in the images in the afternoon part of the time lapse.

For me this video was more about expressing the ability to capture this sort of Solar animation from a potable mount, with some very modest equipment.

Please enjoy,

Trent

Very nice Trent. Don't often see timelapses of the Sun. The sun is obviously much more dynamic than the planets and you can actually see changes over a few hours.

I loved seeing the prominences and filaments moving!

Well done.

Very interesting! Seeing those filaments move around reminds me of the giant sand worms in the Dune novels...

Thanks everyone,
It takes the good part of the following night and morning to put together one of these little sequences. But at least I don't have to check on my scope through out the day any more, the guider just locks on and tracks. The next step would be to automate the rig.
