This is a very interesting and popular target of the southern skies that to me is often not properly considered by deep sky imagers. I wanted to try to render it in particular going deep in Ha, to reveal some very faint emission nebulae of the area I noticed during the preparation of my last year wide field mosaic (http://www.glitteringlights.com/Images/deepsky/13667287_7Mtr58#%21i=1097586243&k=rryhM&lb=1&s=X3).
Here is the result of my efforts:
Southern Pleiades (http://www.glitteringlights.com/Images/deepsky/13667287_7Mtr58#%21i=1819742510&k=22whVJ6&lb=1&s=X3)
I am quite happy with the result, it is an unusual view of this beautiful cluster and the Ha addition to me improve the overall look.
About 18 hours of total exposure, mostly in Ha.
Clear skies

Awesome image, I really like this. It gives a great impression of floating in space in front of the cluster. Very well done!

Very nice, Marco.
Damn shame that it doesn't fit too well on my 8300 chip! :(
Oh wow! 18 hrs! :eyepop:

Thanks Cam!
Thanks Ken, I agree is what makes this image "unusual", actually there is not so much gas, after 3 hours of Ha i was actually wondering if it wasn't making sense go ahead collecting... well, it was ;)
Thanks Trevor
Glad you like it Rolf
Yes, lots of exposure, but since there are as many nights with the moon up in the sky (I do not collect LRGB if there is a moon in the sky) I had plenty of time to focus on this target :P Thanks for the appreciation!

Gorgeous image Marco.
It is an area I have always wanted to image at some point but never have. There are very few images of it. Yours is easily the best.

Beautiful image Marco. I've always thought it a pretty uninteresting cluster but this has changed my mind.

Hi Steve, thanks, indeed showing the Ha was my target, glad it turned out quite pretty :)
Thanks Greg, you are always very kind! :ashamed:
Happy it did Graeme, I agree that this cluster is often overlooked, if it wasn't for the discovery of some Ha there I wouldn't have spent so much time on it as well..
Thanks Marcus, long exposures is one of the luxury you have when you have a fixed observatory :)
Thanks Ross!

Great shot Marco, new perspective on this cluster! You also have a recent nova in the field, Nova Carinae 2012 (V834 Car). It shows up really well in your original size shot, with an unusual red halo. The marked star is missing in your widefield of last year. Quite dim now, out towards mag 14V.

I agree, yours is the best I've seen of this target. Congratulations, it's beautiful.
I was so impressed with this image, I had to go take a look at this object this morning. It will be one of my upcomming Ha targets.

Thanks Mike, it must be the cherry red that gives it my look than :D
Thanks Lucas!
Thanks JJJ, I am glad you like it
Thanks John, yes, definitely give it a try, it is a nice target in Ha too :)

it's more than just the red that makes the distinctive lorenzi look! something about the crisp faint stars, soft glow around the bright ones and velvet black background. beyond that i can't put my finger on it but damn it's a good look!
