Those who are a part of our observing group which meets up on the new moon weekend each month at Kulnura will be aware that our good mate Froggy is going to be leaving Kulnura soon :( , and we will be looking for a new observing home.

This weekend I am hoping to check out a location at Bucketty, which is a bit further north of Kulnura. The site is a bush location owned by a former active amateur astronomer who lives on the Central Coast who is happy for us to use his site as required. (Who knows, we may even be able to tempt him back to the observing fold. ;) )

I will clock the extra travel time, and give you a full report of the observing site in due course. Suffice to say, I expect the skies will be a bit darker :D , but we will have to bring everyting, including power (which, when RB is around shouldnt be a problem:P )

While I am doing my reconaissance mission, does anyone else have any other ideas as to where we could observe? Mogo Creek is one option, but the drive includes a long and poorly maintained dirt road, and there is a camping ground there which often means cursed lights.

I look forward to hearing about the additional time and distance...Kulnura is getting close to the edge of my "quick trip" envelope...

guys I hope somethig can be worked out, but for me kulnura is a 1.5 hour trip one way. 2 hours is not a quick hit for me, I would be better going to Lostock, i have some connections there at a property near the scout camp.

I would be interested in seeing where a regular viewin spot can be found. to be honest I think there are no luxury spots left with hot and cold running maids and dark skies.

Guys....bad news. The bucketty site I had in mind is not going to work out....I discussed the idea in detail with the owner today, and they are concerned about security and public liability issues.

Any other ideas?

BTW, HOughy, I envy you, mate. If Lostock was that close to me, I know where I would be going for new moon each month!
