Televue plossl??or nagler??or panoptic??

Hi, i am on the hunt for a decent 15-20 mm eyepiece..Ive heard alot about televue and there plssl's...i found a guy in the states whos sells naglers and panoptic's and plossl's...can some one give me a quick rundown on the quality of these ep's...are the naglers the best or are the televue plossl's as good...me wishes they would state in the name where they rank in the series..lol...here's the site if anyones interested..

The three lines of EPs from Televue each excell at different things. The Plossls will give you the highest transmission and on-axis performance in general, the naglers the widest field and the panos are in between.

Keep in mind that there are other options besides televue on the premium EP market. Best to try as many as you can at a star party, club meeting etc.

Of all the Televue EPs, the Plossls are my favourite. They are truly outstanding performers. I haven't found anything that beats my TV plossls, although HD orthos are on par (the main diff being the more neutral colour tone). The Panoptics would be next choice because they are very comfortable, except for the 15mm which has too little eye relief. The Naglers are a bit temperamental IMO, esp. for a beginner, and definitely not as good in some respects as the TV plossls.

I would not buy these EPs off ebay from overseas. Buy locally new or wait till one turns up on the 2nd hand market.

Let me clarify: I would not buy from an ebay dealer (ebay business/shop). You can find the (very) occasional bargain from private sellers though.

1) risk 2) there is little to no savings to be had because the final bid is going to be very close to new price, so you're better off buying from a reputable dealer (who will still be there when the money and goods have exchanged hands).

BTW. there are naglers and naglers. Most of the ones this seller's got going are old models (type 1s and 2s).

that said tho, some of the old models are pretty good, like the 20mm t2...

anyhow one modl of televue has been left out, the radians. I believe these have extra eye relief. :)

if you try bintels site they sell televue, or go a secondhand one. most amateur astronomers look after thier gear, especially when it gets to televue level so secondhand gear is 99% of the time in really good condition. :)
I have bought 2 premium level eyepieces second hand and i couldnt tell them from new :)

Bintel sells Televue Plossl's for $140. I am looking to buy one myself. Presently I own a Nagler and Pan and they are fantastic :thumbsup: Televue is my favorite premium eyepiece manufacturer but me thinks their telescopes are waaaaaaay overpriced.

I have descided not to buy one now. I have just purchased a fantastic 300mm Dob and I,ve got a case of fantastic eyepieces so for me to buy another eyepiece would be overkill me thinks.

But new eyepieces are a rare treat :thumbsup:
