The SWMBO and I are heading to Singapore for a few days in Sept. Wondering if any of the fine folks here have any recommendations for reasonably priced hotels in Singapore? We are only there for 3 days before heading off for a jungle tour in Sarawak, but would like to do some exploring so nice and central and close to an MRT station would be nice!

Stayed in the Perak Lodge in Little India a couple of times, was quite reasonable, clean and not too expensive either:

It's between Bugis and Little India MRT stations, so not on top of one, but only a 5-10min walk to each.

But I've not stayed elsewhere in Singapore so I don't know how it compares to other places!

My wife and I have stayed at the YWCA (Fort Canning Lodge) on 3 occasions now, at the end of Orchard Rd and very close to the Museum. Very clean, reasonable food at budget prices, and just all round good value for money. You do have to pay a Membership fee of a few dollars the first time, but you don't have to be a 'Young Woman', and nor will you be subjected to any religious issues. To all intents and purposes at the top end of a middle of the road hotel, but no frills. We booked via Agoda (http://www.agoda.com/asia/singapore/singapore/fort_canning_lodge.html) , as we were offered better deals that way. From memory, we paid about A$90 per night 2 years ago, which covered accomodation and breakfast for the 2 of us for 3 nights in what they call a Superior Twin Room.

When I go back, I shall certainly stay there again. Hope this helps.

PS There is a bus transfer direct from the airport to the Hotel.

What is your idea of "reasonable" for price? $100, $200, $300 per night?

Taxi's in SG are also a good option $15-20 gets you from airport to city. During the day, $25 gets you across the island and $5 gets you across town. Not all taxi's take credit cards, so if using one, flash it before hiring.
