Hi all,

Even though SPSP is on during this same weekend, not everyone can make it. For those who would still like a session at something closer, Katoomba Airfield will be open to us for Saturday 21st of April.

Access to the Airfield is via Medlow Bath, turning into Station Street at the Villiage's only set of lights, and then left into Rutland (also known as Grand Canyon Dr). The Airfield is some 4km from this intersection, with the last 3km being an unsealed road that can have some damage from erosion.

We are welcome to stay overnight in the office building - just take your own blankets or sleeping bag. With the cooling weather, the combustion heater may well get a work out this weekend.

The Airfield is purely a BYO situation - your own power, food. Tank water is available. There's loos for the kids and ladies.

Once at the Airfield, take the LEFT hand track and follow it past the "No Entry" sign. Turn right up the hill past the various buildings to the main runway. We set up on the concrete slab just to the left of the access track. The picture below may help out.

Note: There is an alternate site if you like at The Pony Club at Mangrove Mountain (look in the star parties' stickies listing for a map on how to get there). The site may be under threat from a proposed school to be built next door. You may like to voice some support for keeping the Pony Club a viable site for use by us amateur astronomers. Dark sites are increasingly becoming more and more difficult to find close to Sydney. Poita has come up with an idea to attempt to encourage the developers of the School to make it night time friendly for the times that The Pony Club is being used for astronomy purposes. Could end up being a win-win situation.

Alex.

Spoke with Rod this morning. Been raining there and there are some nasty erosion gashes in the last leg leading to the airfield. Take it easy or yo may end up leaving your transmission behind in one of those ruts. :driving: :eyepop:

I hope the weather is good for tomorrow night. The withdrawal symptoms are getting really, reallllllyyyy bad now.... :ship2: :tasdevil:

OK, I'll chance it. Might be some sucker holes. And I can find out where it is and whether I can get across the erosion channels!
