First NB Light - M8 Lagoon Nebula

First test with FSQ106EDXIII/QSI583 in narrowband.
I only achieved under 3hrs(6x300ea) through Astronomik Ha,SII,and OIII, but it was mainly a test to check automated focusing, drivers, and patience :)

I've never tried processing as yet with narrowband mixtures, and wasnt sure how to mix these two, but in the end meddled with LRGB stack in HaHaOIIIOIII.

A little overcooked on the processing, so yes stars are burnt :P

You sneaky little begger Dan, when did you get that one out? In any case it looks pretty good though you may have to look at some of the stars as you have a bit of black ring happening. Also around one or two of the stars is a massive reflection.

All in all looks like the setup is operating well now

I like this a lot. Colors are great. You said you got sii data as well but no sii in final blend. Any reason why ?

Late last Thurs/Friday?. Yeah the black ringing is after some deconvolution and processing. Gotta check out PixInsight's nifty de ringing wavelet routines, mmm.
There's some reflections that get through on the bright ones; I dont mind em , look a little cooked though.



still being new to processing NB images; I went for the blend but didnt like the output. Once I get more data with all the filters and read some more on the processing of NB; I attempt to do a blend with them all.
HaHaOIIIOIII just appealed more to me at the time.

Wow, very striking. So sharp and so much detail and you got the core area just nice.

Your Ha though has blended into your stars affecting their colour.

A star mark would handle that. Select the stars (easiest way is Noel Carboni photoshop action "Select brighter stars" then make an inverted mask out of it (see Louie Atlas's free tutorials). Now you can blast your neb and protect your stars from getting the treatment you give the neb.

Thanks, that's what I tried to achieve.
Only problem is I stacked the LRGB composite in MaximDL. Will try that method out sometime. At present dwelving into PixInsight processes. ;)

PixInsight is an interesting program. Some love it. I think it has some tools. I have learnt using Photoshop and the 2 pgms seemed to result in much the same with Photoshop being more intuitive.

I think there are some functions in PI that are not easy to achieve in PS and vice versa. PI seems a little bit not user friendly and the interface awkward. It doesn't flow as well as Photoshop. Also its a bit like driving a nice car but you can see the engine parts moving. There's no need to see the lines of code everywhere. A bit like a teenagers bedroom!

Still there are some nice features in there I think. Mosaic process has promise although in the end PS CS4 and above is probably similar and PTGui probably better than both.

Agree about the 3D look - the "curtains" around the perimeter of the nebula are wonderfully detailed. The stars seem a little harsh or burned out if I was to make a criticism. As Greg said, might pay to play with star masking in the repro - PI makes this pretty easier to play with, even if you do end up doing final layering in PS rather than using Pixelmath.
