3 Types of power supply, which to choose?

My budget is $150, don't need anything too flash but don't want something crappy. I asked a little while ago about power supplies and got some useful information, just narrowing down possibilities. I know that deep cycle is preferred.

I found three types and wanted to ask your recommendations.

I do like the plug into wall method because the area I set my scope up in my garden isn't too far from a main power point inside my house and can easily run a 5 meter cable but having portable power could come in handy in the future!

Preferences.
Budget: Under $150
Type preferred: I do like plug into wall but wouldn't mind a portable.
Usage: Between 2-4 hours in one night.

Plug into wall is a lot cheaper than the one from Bintel (sorry Bintel).

I say, get the jump starter it is cheaper and is the same as the more expensive Bintel power solution (sorry again Bintel).

Also what you call portable deep cycle is not deep cycle but just a sla (sealed lead acid) battery like the ones in the jumpstarters.

So get the jump starter and be happy :P
Or get the jump starter now and a separate plugin power supply later like the one from Jaycar and use that when you have 240V available.
Batteries can be charged about 350 to 400 times and then they loose capacity.

I bought this one for $150 from Jaycar and it seems to be good for light use I have a Celestron 5se mount and a acer netbook that runs on the 400watt inverter.

What is the difference between that one and this one.

The difference is 8Amps so you can use some dew heaters etc.

If you run short cables then you can use normal loud speaker cable or any cable with a black and red sheeting so you will know what is positive and what is negative.

Alright, I have been running around getting ideas, would like to share with everyone here.

Went to JayCar and asked them if they had something like this.

They did and it was $60 and i still needed to purchase another cable.

Went to Supercheap, saw the $90 jump starter (yellow one), but also saw this one (see image below). Originally $50, and it was on special down to $30. Was tempted to get it but would now love to use the mains power and not worry about charging and caring for the battery.

:shrug: Stefan , this model has no cigrette /power plugs . OUCH>:help:be very careful here . Its probably a great battery , but not for what we will use them for ?? :question: .

The yellow CSA 900 amp has 2 sockets and a light ,,:hi: , and is the way to go mate , for our mounts , and will run a few extras . :thumbsup: .

It is currently on special until the end of April at Repco

I haven't physically seen it for myself but it will give 12V with the same 600Amp and I "think" it has the all important cigarette socket on the side of the unit which would appear to solve the shortfall of the one you saw at supercheap for $30 but didn't appear to have the cigarette socket. It also has a little light to boot on the front!

It probably wouldn't be enough to run multiple devices but for something that is small, easily portable and will run a mount for a few hours maybe it might be okay????

Ended up getting the yellow one from supercheap auto!
