Out of 1350 entries, one of my astrophotos has been selected as one of the shortlisted photographs in the prestigious national 2012 ANZANG Nature Photography competition run by the SA Museum in the Wilderness category! It will be included in the touring ANZANG exhibition and the book published by the CSIRO! Winners announced 4th Oct.

The image was taken at Poocher Swamp near Bordertown SA (the same location that I took the comet Lovejoy images). There's a meteor or Iridium flare in the centre just above the Southern Cross and the moon is rising on the left.

Nikon D700, Tokina 12-24mm at 17mm, 30 sec, f4, ISO 3200. Processed in CS5 and Noise Ninja.

Thanks. Yes i like that too... it give the scene a bit of axction.

Actually I meant to ask people here what they think it is. I have to write a blurb to accompany the photo but I don't know if it's a meteor or Iridium flare. I suspect it's a flare. In either case it looks like the exposure would have had to finish half way through the meteor or flare transit. There's a higher chance it's a flare because of it's slower movement. what do you think?

Thanks! I'm certainly not expecting anything more, especially after the calibre of images I saw in last year's. But then again I really didn't expect anything in the 2010 Malin's either and look what happened!

Thanks Steve. Anyone can! Practice, trial and error and learn from your mistakes. There's many many more that I've taken at this location that are duds!
