I've posted a few aurora pictures and a very short time lapse video from our trip to Scandinavia previously. Here's a longer video containing all the best bits. I finished it a few weeks ago but since one of my colleagues from the trip was using the video in a NACAA presentation I held off posting it until now.

These images were captured over three nights in late January when we saw the Aurora at Lyngen Fjord and Tromso in Norway during the "Fire in the Sky" tour with Fred Watson.

The camera used was a Nikon D700, 14-24mm f/2.8 zoom lens mostly at 14mm and wide open. Exposures were usually 10 seconds. They are being replayed at 5 frames/second.

I wasn't actually intending to do a video at all but when I tried stringing a few frames together I thought they looked OK. I'm really looking forward to seeing Phil Hart's videos from the Yukon to see what a professional can do

The video is the last thumbnail here:

Thanks, Alex. I've really enjoyed your videos and appreciate the comments!

Yes, it was very cool, thanks Niko.

Thanks, Troy. It was a tough sell to get my wife interested in going there in the middle of winter, but well worth the effort ;)

Thanks for the kind comments, Geoff, and thanks also to you and Matt for making everything run smoothly at NACAA!

Thanks, Greg. My brother did the soundtrack. He'll be pleased to know that you enjoyed it.

Thanks, Doug! Hope you enjoyed your holiday too.

Ken, I was lucky with the location, weather and the tricky lady herself. I was very interested to see your images too. We have a fundamental disadvantage in the Southern Hemisphere. Unless you can get to the Antarctic, everything is just so far from the South Pole. Thanks for the comments.

Cheers,
Rick.

Very impressive Rick. I can almost hear those Norwegian Astro Imagers from here : 'Not the Bloody Aurora again, worse than clouds.' :)

Thanks, Robin. I think the aurora would be the least of your problems if you were an imager in northern Scandinavia

Thanks, Marc & Peter!
