Hi,

I went over my original images and I think I have been able to tease out a liitle more central detail. I've been observing the Homunculus at Bowen for many years and to my eye it has changed in appearance and now looks a bit different to the Hubble image which was taken in 1995. I'd be most interested in what other observers think.

Thanks for looking.

Looks pretty good. There maybe some changes, would be good to see an updated image of it to compare with the old... Looks like you have captured some darker areas in the bottom bubble.

Hi,

Thanks Andrew and Ross.

Thought you all might be interested in this fabulous image taken by amateurs in Chile in 2008. They used a RCOS 14.5" Ritchey-Chrétien with Baader 2" FFC (Fluorit Flatfield Converter) working at f/37 - 13.7 meter focal length. The link is http://www.verschatse.cl/nebulae/Eta-Homunculus/medium.htm

They also wrote this up in an article for Sky and Telescope (March 2009). For copyright reasons I can't give a comparison with Hubble and my image but when scalled down there appears to be some change in the lower lobe.

regards,

RichardJ

Hi,

The seeing was good on Friday night so I took some more images. I think I've achieved a better result and it has good concordance with the image taken at Antilhue Observatory in 2008.

Thanks for looking.

Hi,

Daniel Verschatse at Antilhue Observatory has kindly given me permission to post their image compared to mine. The original image can be found at http://www.verschatse.cl/nebulae/Eta-Homunculus/medium.htm

Thanks for looking.

Pretty cool Richard. I reckon if you go even lower in your sub time you'll be able to composite all the inner core details into your shot.
