Hi, my name is Mark and this is my first time posting on 'ice in space'.

My interest in astronomy started a few years back and since buying my first telescope, I can't get enough.

My current collection includes a Skywatcher 12 inch goto DOB, Televue 102 and heq5 pro goto mount, coronado PST,21,13, Ethos,16,9,3-6 Nagler. At the end of the year, my 18 inch SDM 666 DOB will be ready - a present to myself for my 30th.

Being a head chef and working in a hectic kitchen, I look forward to getting out of the city every month for a weekend in search for dark skies. My last trip west was a cracker and I was able to capture pictures of Omega Cent. and Orion Nebula.

I will post them soon - watch this space.

Welcome Mark
Nice collection of gear. What type of 18" dob are you getting? I am looking at one in that class myself and haven't bitten the bullet yet!

Hi Mark, :welcome:
Nice to have you aboard.
If you like travelling for dark skies, and like to meet a bunch of like minded friendly folk, check out the Star Parties forum and have a look at the Bretti short trip planned for May New Moon.
or
Maybe you could make it to the "Pony Club" at Mangrove Mountain one time.
Mark Suchting was there last week.
and even Iceman turns up occasionally.
And there is usually at least one SDM.
And it is informal and free.
Check the map in the top sticky section of Star Parties...

Looking forward to seeing you.

Hi Mark,

No real issues with the SDM. The secondary mirror came loose recently when setting up at the Pony Club - probably more so because of the drive/bouncing around at the back of the ute. Apart from that, pretty much everything falls in place when setting up the first time around.

I'll be at SPSP with the scope, so if your there, more than welcome to give my scope a workout :) !

Cheers, Norm
