Hi all,

Tonight we had two space stations passing over Brisbane within 5 minutes! The ISS went over first, followed 5 minutes later by China's Tiangong 1 station only a few degrees away from where the ISS had been. I'm guessing it is a fairly rare occurence to have both in the same patch of sky only a few minutes apart - although it happens again tomorrow night if you're near Brisbane.

The ISS was magnitude -1.3, and Tiangong 1 was mag 2.4. For this image I used Startrails to stack a series of 4 second exposures taken with a Canon 50D at 800 iso and EF35mm f/2 lens at f/2.5

Cheers,
Stephen

Thanks Tom. Tiangong 1 went past Crux 5 minutes before the ISS pass that you captured on video yesterday - did you see it?

Cheers,
Stephen

I didn't see the Tiangong 1 but I did manage to get a brief video of it when lining up for the ISS. I actually wanted to capture both on the one clip but lost track of the time filming Jupiter.

Hi Stephen

Glad to see your continuing excellent work in recording and presenting these fascinating events, your photo really illustrates so well, the dynamics of the Earth’s rotation and these amazing man-made objects circling overhead.

Cheers
