View Full Version here: : Best Free Camps Around
Hi Guys, Alice and I are traveling well and taking it easy as we cruise up to Queensland.;)
We have free camped all the way, and have come across some awesome places, we have spent two days at this one.:eyepop:
Located just out of Coonaburrabran. it has its own waterfall, :D took this pic early this morning, one would usually have to pay for this location.:)

Looks like a good little gem of a spot. Cant beat free sites! Nature at its best and dark skies at night, what a great combo:thumbsup:

Beautiful location Leon, the first photo really is special, that arched tree just adds so much. That image is going to look so wonderful printed-well done.
The second image just doest not 'light my fire',but the first is magic,Hope you and Alice call in for a night or three on your travels.
cheers Chris:thumbsup:
Thanks guys, it certainly is a top spot, however we move on in the morning, but I'm sure there will be some other great places to visit.
You may well laugh ken but i actually did get in the lagoon under the falls, and had a scrub. LOL

Geez, you are a hard man Chris!
If Leon was trying to showcase his photography I'm sure he would've posted it in 'Terrestrial Imaging'.
This is General Chat and I like the fact that Leon has shown us where he stayed.
OK, they may not be 'Calendar' quality, but to me they are more discriptive of the area, not Artistic landscapes.
Photographic Critics even in General Chat! That's new :screwy:

what's your problem????
Obviously Leon has no issue with my post,he just sent me a PM regarding a stay over on his trip,be nice to meet some of the regular people here that have no hangs ups, unlike some that appear to read someone's post fifty times and try and read what they want into it:shrug:

Looks like a great spot!
Heading to Coona myself next month with the camper trailer. Care to share the where abouts of this spot. If so, do you get good views of the sky?
Cheers

I hate you Leon....just kidding, just kidding :) looks like you're having a fantastic time
Thanks Guys, we love all the spots we choose to stay at, well 99% of them anyway.
Deeno, just go out and buy a Camps 5 or the new Camps 6 book, available at any news agency, book shop, camping places, or anywhere where maps are sold.
It, the bible for travelers as it is known, :D will have every free camp spot in Australia, the location, what is available there, and the new Camp 6 has even got pictures of the place.
A must have book for anyone wanting to travel on a budget.;)

Some friends have the Camps book and find it very useful for their van. I'm going to get it but I'm less sure how useful it is for tenters. The only negative I've heard about the book is that you will wind up sharing the place with 20 others who also have the book. We spent years on the road without paying and got very good at sniffing out a free spot (with only a few disasters). But I can see the advantage of knowing where to go rather than searching up and down back roads.
Leon, I am wondering whether to get the plain version or the one with photos. The problem with the photo one is that it is B4 (rather than A4) and I'm not sure where in the car I could keep it. How representative of the camp site do you find the photos?? I'm concerned that you could make a carp place look good or you might not see the one good spot in an otherwise poor area.
