View Full Version here: : Total Carina re-work

After having seen Marcus' splendid Carina image, I decided I had an obsession with things being....well red.

Did a total rework of the data, going easy on the h-alpha blend, pushed up the star colours and h-alpha vs h-beta contrast within the nebula.

The question is: Is it any good, or have I mucked it up?

The link is here (http://www.atscope.com.au/BRO/gallery140.html) (file size about 3 meg... not i-pad friendly)

It's bluer, but still not enough blue ;)

Lovely though.

Humm... need to research it some more, but... I did ask! :)

I like this version. Good colours and smooth detail.

Lovely image Peter but I think Marcus just wins out on the correct colour.

Cheers

Ta Paul...tweaked it some more, but I'm chasing my tail. I suspect I need some more data.

Thanks Steve, yep, Marcus' shot is a pearler...but even that I'm not sure about being "correct" ..non-linear scaling will change saturation and preceived hue...something I suspect the pro's of film never had to deal with.

Sentiment appreciated Greg... I've tweaked it yet again !

I think that tweak made it even closer. The centre bright area seems better.

I think it looks great Peter!! Besides .. viva la difference!!

Wanna hear something funny? I just tweaked my image before I tuned into IIS ... lowered the blue curve a tad.

 that's a good thing!! . I suspect we are converging on a solution

Is it wierd that when I read the thread title, I thought wonder how many panes this mosaic was.

Actually thinking about it, with your new scope wouldn't a "total" carina constelation mosaic be like a 4X4?

:lol::lol:

Maybe so ... but are either one of us "respecting the light"? ;)

Ahhh...maaaybe you are both doing what Perkin Elmer did to Hubbles mirror too?

Both Peter & Marcus have excellent images -
they look like APODS.

Both of them have blue showing which in my opinion is correct.
I would have lessened the saturation on both of them by a tiny amount
just to make the clouds look a little less solid.
That would have caused - of course - a lessening of the colour impact
so it gets down to personal taste.

I'd have to say it's pink, not blue...

My daughters (6 & 4) would love it!

 Don't worry Peter. At least she didn't start crying!!

Of course she did... but being a girl, she'll be saying "magenta" soon!

Us poor males are limited to red, blue, green and maybe yellow and orange. :)

Thanks Ross

Thanks..maybe not, but at least the iterations are converging

It does come down to taste, but I also try to strive for colour fidelity, and don't like putting in any processing (eg sharpening) artifacts

Wot? Perfectly smooth but buggered up the last little bit?

As sergeant Schultz would say: "jolly jokers! " :)

Just browsing the full res data the RHA produced and noticed a few planetary nebs (attached) near the Eta Carina Nebula.

....I'll leave interested viewers to identify which ones the are :)
