Hi All,
We're holding our first open :welcome:astronomy night this Friday 30th March on the school oval. Students, parents and friends come along and view the night sky through telescopes :astron:provided by amateure astronomers who willingly give up their time to attend. We've held a couple of events each year since 2009 and they have been well attended. We are setting up from 7pm and the students have been asked to arrive from 7:30pm onward.
We generally conclude about 9pm. Often the astronomers will stay a little longer.

Weather :rain:permitting of course. Watch this space for cancellation notice. The final decision will be made around 5:30pm.

Enter via the gate at the rouind-about on Barker Street opposite the entrance to Prince of Wales Hospital. Follow the signs on entry.

Put a post on the forum if you intend on coming, let us know what scope/scopes you'll bring. See you there.:stargaze:

I'll be there!

Looking to bring 2 scopes, a C9.25 & my 17.5" dob, & an astronomical video camera,

:astron::stargaze:

Last Saturday night was really good, and the Moon will add a good target til it sets.

Sorry I couldn't make it on Saturday. The boss at home vetoed due another commitment just before I was about to start packing!

I will try for this Friday again.

Cheers

Great to see that so many of you are willing to come out and play on Friday. It has been suggested that we compose a list of objects to showcase to those who attend. I'll start the ball rolling with...
Moon
Venus
Jupiter (only early birds will see this)
Mars
Saturn (towards the end of the planned viewing time)
Jewel Box NGC 4755
Omega Centauri NGC 5139
47Tuc NGC 104
Great Orion Nebula M42
Souther Pleiades IC 2602
Blue Planetary NGC 3918
Globular Cluster NGC 2808

Feel free to add the list.

The school has a new Meade LT 8" ACF which we'll have out on the oval as well a the scopes we all bring along.

See you there.

Many thanks to :thanx: Lacad01, Geoffw1 and Mental4Astro :thanx: for providing their scopes for the public to view the sky.
Young and old alike were thilled to see so much detail on the Moon. Saturn was "so cool".
Occasional obstructions due to cloud but a very successful night.
