This is the first image that I have taken, that I felt is worthy of placing in this area of the forum. The Waning Gibbous Moon, 19.45 days old. It was taken on the 12th March 2012, at 2321hrs Local Time.
It is fair to say that I was over the moon with how the full size image turned out.
Any advice that can be given will be gratefully accepted.

Thanks JJJ and Tom. The compressed file lost some of the finer details that are present in the original image. It still retained most of it though.
It is something special when the photo that is in your hands is one that was taken by you. :)

Hi Stu - really good - I like the colour and the details. I have never tried eye piece projection - great job!
I must get back to the Moon - I think I will try a mosaic with my 8".
Thanks for the post!

 Well done Stu , especially given you used a 12 inch scope ! that kind of apateure usually washes the image right out .. Its addictive , aint it .;).

Thanks for your comments Matt. I recently purchased the IIS 2009 Compendium and was inpressed with your Lunar Mosaic on P3. It must have taken some time to put together.
I am new to this, so am I right in saying that using a mosaic of multiple images and then merging them, makes it easier to control the quality of the photography?
How did you manage to blend the images to so seamlessly?
Does Autostitch work automatically or do you need to control the whole process?
Regards,
Stu.

Too right Brian, and the learning curve is almost vertical. I discarded the majority of the shots that I took of the Moon. I think I ended up using two ND moon filters to reduce the washing out of the images. It is good fun working around the niggles.
