First Jupiter This Season

Well after about 6 aborted early morning looks where I get up, check the seeing and go back to bed disgruntled, I finally gave Jupiter a shot.
THis morning the seeing was about 6/10 and while not as good as I wanted, I was sick of not getting a result.
The equipment was the Takahashi Mewlon 180, with Powermate 2.5x, (so 5400mm or f30), and given the conditions this was probably stretching it.
ToUcam, using IRIS and WcCtrl to capture. 600 frames at 10 fps. Registax used about 290 of the 600 frames. Waveletting etc in Registax, and a final tweak with Photoshop.
Roll on some decent seeing.

Is that a shadow of one of the moons?

Yep, it is one of the moons shadows ( shadow transit) with the moon just off the disk. Unfortunately the moon didn't show up.
Not happy with it, BUT given the conditions it was the best I could produce.

My jup images from last night looked the same with those rings of distortion around them. Otherwise the images sharpened up fine. I though it was just me and my settings, until I noticed the dew on the corrector plate. Strange though my quick processed saturn images look fine.

Hi Gary,
Finally onto Jupiter ay!... To be honest this is not one of your best. You & I both know you can do better... But good on you for dragging yourself out in the wee small hours. We have had stunning days lately all to be ruined bt the cloud rolling in a 10:30pm... Everytime!

Don't want to kick you but, I think that your gain needs to be a bit higher and exposure a little longer.

I also suspect that your brightness might be set a bit too high. It often gives me a false reading on the screen. You said in the other post that you had it at 50%, and this is where I started but now have it set on only 25%. This seems to give me a better image overall.

Still not bad for the first of the season. But I know that you can do much better. I have seen it on your site.

Keep em coming. This is motivating me to get the observatory finished.

no kicking offense aken, I am all for an interchange of ideas, and need help as much as any one else.
I will try that, thank you. Yes get that observatory done, and then you will be able to wave a big stick with all of us.
Rob, yes the standard can only get better, and while not flash, it is good to at least post something.
I am tempted to crack a bit of webcamming at Waharau, and it could also feature at Taupo (assuming you run it there). Full credit.

Off to Tauop this weekend to sort out venues. Hopefully I will find somewhare suitable.

I also need to get onto some planet images... Although I have tried, more than once only to be beaten by seeing. Things can olny get better and with Jupiter getting higher in the evenigs, I'm sure I'll crack it eventually!!! Full Credit.

Any venue will do, as slightly out of town will be dark anyway.
