Hey all,

I recently bought at this (http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/color-collection/devices/7079) webcam, I took it apart and removed all the housing for it leaving me with a board with a USB cable attached.. It still works perfect as I did test it.

What my plan is, mounting the board with hot glue or tape or something to the end of a 35mm Film canister. After the housing is off the webcam there is a little lens that sticks out about 3/4 of a centimetre and about 1/2 a centimetre wide. I was going to drill a whole into the lid of the canister and then pop the lens through and cut the bottom out of the canister then just drop that directly into the lens part of the scope.

What I originally tried doing was mounting the webcam to my 25mm lens but had no luck at all.. What will I be able to see with just the webcam and a film canister without any zoom lens's on it?

Thanks for any help!

Can you take a picture of the disassembled webcam? You will need to remove the lens so that you can see the CCD chip.

About the same as a 6mm lens would on your scope (if it's as sensitive as your eyes.)
If it isn't, then not a lot. The sensor diagonal of a prime focus camera is equivalent to the same size EP.

Poita, I'll take a picture once I get home tonight and post it. It's not an auto-focus lens so It should be fine to keep there. I hope so or putting it on the bloody canister is going to be troublesome.

Jenchris, 6mm hey.. Never really used one, is there a picture somewhere of what I might see as I really want to take pictures of some objects rather then the sky it's self.

Also Poita, do you happen to play Eve online?

Remove the lens and attach only the film canister. Cut the bottom off so it's just a tube. This will allow you to slide it into your eyepiece. Your telescope becomes the lens now so you don't want the one that's on the webcam anymore. All you should see in the sensor in the webcam

No, as Martin says, you have remove that lens if you want to do anything useful with the camera.

What is EVE online?

I have http://i.imgur.com/kYxP9.jpg and the one in my display picture. I got no real good scopes at the moment, no GoTo mount or anything of the sorts. So yeah, problem 1.

I'll have a look at the webcam again tonight and see how I can get that lens off.. It was fixed on there good like last time I had a look but I didn't spend too long on it.
