First time imaging lightning. Taken looking over Pt Noarlunga jetty, which is about 35km south of Adelaide.

Thanks everyone for their comments. I was ecstatic to capture something as it was all done in a rush.
Sure thing. Here are the details:
Camera: 400d
Lens: Standard 18-55mm lens @ 18mm
F-stop: 3.5
ISO400
Exposure: 20secs
Pictures were overexposed so I went down to ISO100 but I didn't capture anything else. I adjusted the brightness in PS.

Nice work. Night time shooting is so much easier than day.
You should use f8 though for night time work. It gives narrower bolts and the tendrils end up being hairline thin.
The video is great. I got some myself, but not as good as your video.

Thanks Paul. I had no idea what settings to use but will try your suggestion next time, which could be a while given that we don't get that many storms.

Might be a few chances yet, but most likely this will be one of our last chances until next summer. Main thing it gives us a chance to see one of natures most powerful events.

Reminds me of what someone told me once.

great pics! i love the twin bolts image especially. Pt Noarlunga is not that far from me at all. Great spot for some photography. I was all set up last night and realised a flat battery spoiled my fun.
Thanks for posting what i missed:P:)
