There's been a lot of impressive Jovian imagery{ } so far this year so I feel abit inadequate sharing these examples :P  Found by upping the brightness levels first and then adjusting the other controls {through K3ccdtools} im getting better results then I did with the ToUcam during the mars opposition. The images are pretty soft , the 3 AVIs were recorded before midnight on the 27th so Jupiter was relatively low , each consisted of 2000 frames 5fps and hmmm damn I was dog tired and didn't note other settings  :)

Hey Stuart! That's a nice result! I'm afraid though I think part of the reason for the softness is that you captured for too long.

90s should be your maximum capture length for Jupiter, and at 5fps that only gives you 450 frames. To get 2000 frames you've captured for way longer and the stacking will blur some of the features due to the rotation of the planet.

I'm sure the other part of the softness is due to the low altitude that Joop would've been before midnight. Still, a nice result! Well done.

I did a quick split, LR deconvolution (3@1.1) and recombine, it generally helps restore the correct colour balance. It obviously introduced some nasty artifacts because the image was already comperssed, but you get the idea :)

Hope you don't mind.

yup as ice says, rotation has not help. You have caugh the white z spot i think they are calling it up the top.

3am ish is still best for capture i believe when it is nice and high

well done

G'day Stuart. How've you been? It's good to see you posting some more images. Which can only mean you managed to get some clear skies at last. :)

Nice shot for the first of the season. There are lots of great features visible there and it looks like the conditions on the night mightn't have been too bad, even with Jupiter down so low. 100% agree with Mike re capture time, drop it down to 90sec. You won't have as many frames to process but the end result will be sharper given similar conditions.

Don't be shy mate :P Post some more. At least you've posted three more than I have this season.:)

Good stuff Stuart. And good comments Mike... the sort of stuff us imaging novices can try to learn from.

:) Thanks Fellas and ditto Al thanks Mike for the tips i knew I had some time limit on a AVI run but didnt suspect it was as short as 90s@5ps  Dust motes having been plaguing me , the 2inch 2xpowermate is a bugger to keep dust/lint free {thinking of trying this product out http://www.optcorp.com/product.aspx?pid=105-296-181-1723} so Ive been taking 1500+avis to maybe compensate.Paul we've had some reasonable clear nights but the days have been generally hot so conditions mixed with consistent wind patterns has made it a bit rough for imaging but the cooler months are nearly here :D
