I was thinking of adding one of Dick Seymours firmware patches to my LX200GPS.. I wanted to know if I would loose all my drive and PEC training if I added the patch.. Has anyone else done this and what was the result..

Gday Martin

Reloading patched firmware doesn't invalidate your PEC
or drive training data.
Also, if you ensure the peek section is selected, you can always go back in and grab the historical data for reloading/ re-entering as required.
42gg16 is the latest released patch but there are several other things we are testing/working on.
What in particular are you interested in.
Also, i would strongly suggest using Starpatch instead of ASU to do the patch loading, as it is a much more user friendly and robust interface.

Thank Andrew. I have a friend that is working on a step focus system that allows fine focus in set incriments. I am also wanting precision alignment to stay on after power down. I have read a few other advantages but was worried about loosing all my training. Happy to hear I won't. Not sure where I find the peek section, but I am sure I will work it out.

Look at http://www.stargps.ca/downloads.htm
and look 3/4 way down for "ASII"
It has the current rom and spf files there.
If you load starpatch on yr PC and select Hbx type of ASII,
then ask it to search for latest files,
it should also find em automatically.

If that is the case, you will need the :FP section of the patch.
Just be warned, the patch fixes the function so that it allows
precise "pulse" focussing, but it is time limited, NOT position limited.
Ie you cannot calibrate the guider for set "distance moves"
as the distance moved depends on load and orientation of the focusser.
Its certainly better than manual start/stop focussing
but its still not a precision process.

Load StarPatch, start your scope and connect the comms cable.
Select handbox type of ASII and Baud rate of 115k
Select the ....gg16.spf file into the file select window.
Once it presents the patch options, select those you want
and deselect those you dont want.
Hit GO and its done when it beeps:D
