This handsome male I spotted in my backyard yesterday morning, at first I thought he may have been stuck in a spiderweb but instead he had just emerged from a chrysalis and the colours were so bright I've never seen one like it before and I've seen many Orchard Swallowtails before. He didn't mind the camera flash either and I enjoyed his company for about half an hour while he contemplated on whether it was safe to fly away:)

Thanks, it was an amazing experience. My father promised when he passed that he would come back as a butterfly and this one didn't seem to want to leave me which was very unusual and strange.

:eyepop: Wow you are so lucky to be there right when he emerged. I am told they need to gather the strength in their wings for a little while after coming out. Great colours on this one. At my daughters kindy they had 5 chrysalis and we were lucky enough to actually see the last Monarch butterfly emerge from its chrysalis. All the teachers and kids were buzzing with excitement. It was a great wonder of nature to witness. Great pics thanks for sharing:thumbsup:

The Monarch or Wanderer butterfly is another amazing Australian native that is great to see too. I never knew the colours faded so much until I saw it all brand new.
