Hi everyone, I have a short AVI of the Sun and havent a clue how to process it. everytime I try I make it worse. Its a lot redder than what I see others doing on this site so think my settings were way off. Im wondering if anyone has the time and now what they are doing if they could have a play with it for me and see if they can get a decent shot and let me know what settings I need to change. Fingers crossed Cam

some questions

Which camera?
Which scope?
Which filter?

Can you post the image in question?

SPC 900NC... coronado PST I had to put a barlow nose piece on to get anywhere near focus. Tried uploading the AVI and it says invalid file.

ah ok, now that makes sense.

First up you need to use a monochrome camera to image the sun in Ha. Yes you can use a colour camera but you need to exclude all the channels in processing to get just the red channel data. Monochrome will produce the sort of results you are after. The images you see us guys posting are monochrome but coloured to make it looks like the Sun in Ha.

A friend on the telescope junkie forum had a play with the AVI for me. This is the result

Thanks Matt. I am very happy. focus couldve been a bit better. Here is what he said hey did.. "Hey Cam, here is what I could pull out of it. I've included a B+W as well as a colorized version.
Ran it through Registax 6 Then brought it into PS elements 8.
Converted to B+W , then did some noise reduction, contrast enhancement and then colorized the result.
Hope you like it.

I think you did a great job!! Focus could be a tad sharper, but a very nice capture.
Keep after it and soon you'll be an old pro!!"

Looks like I have a couple of programs to download lol

Give Autostakkert a try, I like it better than registax and there is a good solar tutorial.
