Thanks for the tip off Mike otherwise i would have missed it!!!!
It was a good watch!!!
I've always thought that we are no fluke. If the biulding blocks (elements) for life are here, then surely they must be other places too!!
I have no doubt there is life throughout the universe!

G'day Mike,
Thanks for the advice on this show as it was a good presentation. Neil de Grasse Tyson is the head of the Hayden Planetarium and I did have to chuckle at certain points in the show as I recognised scenes from the Hayden produced "Search for Life: Are We Alone?" planetarium show.
An insiders note about this Hayden production: they don't follow IAU rulings. I say this because there are 2 times in the show "Search For Life: Are We Alone?" where iconsistancies with the IAU are evident. In one part the orbits of the planets about our Sun are shown, but Pluto is not one of those orbits. In another part they state as fact that Europa has a sub-surface ocean of water!
This show, "Science: Origins", was very well presented and Tyson gave a clear understanding of the links involved in unraveling the goings on since the Big Bang. It put things that I have known about into place thus making the bigger picture alot clearer. I will make the note however, that it seemed somewhat USA-centric.
All in all...a good watch :)
Peter.

Agreed - a bit too usafied, but still a goos show. Love how it brought cosmology and chemistry together in a way everybody could understand.

I thought it really got a little TOO simple in parts, like when he was explaining the em spectrum using those cheesy props with the dial and stuff, that almost deserved to be on Sesamy Street or something ;)
The interviews with some of the radio astronomy pioneers and stuff was great, I've read and heard about it but to see the people responsible and hear them speak about it was great.
Oh, and as far as people who still think we're the only life in the universe, I think they need to study this for about 15 minutes:

We may be the only life within our current "physical reach" but when we have things like the above, I really think you'd have to be delusional to believe we are really the only life in the universe....

For those who missed it with money to burn, the DVD is available from Dymocks. Perhaps a copy for the Rockdale Library...
