WO FLT-110 or FLT-98

Hi Guys,

This is my first post on this forum. I've been following for quite some time and have found it to be incredibly useful.

I currently have a CGEM 925 with a hyperstar III but since I'm a student my space is quite limited and am now needing to downsize.
After reading several posts on this forum I've narrowed myself down to either the WO FLT-110 or FLT-98. The scope will be used for mostly imaging DSO's.

I also live in the outer suburbs of Sydney, so there is some light pollution.

My question is, which scope is most suitable for this? I have been considering the FLT-98 as it is a bit cheaper. However, if the benefits of the FLT-110 are significant I am willing to fork out extra for that.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :),

Hi Mitch,
I have no experience with the '98 though I have heard no complaints from anyone who owns one.
The FLT110 (in all its guises) also seems to have a devouted following. The example I tried (the TEC lensed f6.5) was an absolute corker and I regret not buying it.
The 110 will have slightly higher resolution and all things being rqual, give better views on average-good nights.
However, for a 110mm scope, it's quite big and heavy, while the 98 is considered quite compact and portable.
Just my 2 cents, but if its in a semi-permanent installation I'd probably opt for the 110.

You don't have a Hyperstar any more :D
For the 1/2" of aperture, I'd stick with the 98 if you want portability as a main aim.
If moving it about is not an issue, then definitely get the 110.
I have a Lomo 105 and it is a perfect size really, very easy to move around, packs down to almost nothing and the aperture is good enough for my seeing and conditions.

See them in the flesh and make a decision on size. If the 110 isn't too big for your space, then get it. If it is too big, get the 98.
The 110 will be no good to you if you don't use it.

However, because I was slightly impatient and also keen to save a bit of money I've bought a Orion ED102t cf which I'm over the moon about.

It's light (perfect for my back :D) and build quality and picture quality seems second to none.
