Heres my first proper go at this.

As some might know, this is Goto Dob imaging.
I've been doing lots of playing around with this setup to see how far i can push it.
I've been looking at ways to maximise the exp length and got some decent results
This is the first time I have tried a new method :

Shorter Exp, higher ISO setting

So whilst i may introduce some extra noise, I have a better chance of holding tight stars on an Alt / Az mount. So here goes

150 x 10 Sec exp at ISO 1600

I'm quite happy;);)

Looking forward to seeing more experiments with this setup. I've always been very interested in GOTO Dob imaging, as it is probably the least expensive/'risky' way to start imaging.
How does it look at higher resolutions?

You can make them screen size no isses, if you blow them right up, you can see that the stars aren't prefectly round. I have printed a few A4 size images and they look good.
Its not an imaging setup, but you can get great personal satisfaction from imaging with it. ( if you know what I mean )

:D I know exactly what you mean Stu. It's great fun, pushing your gear to the limits. The skills you are learning will be of great value if you decide to go completely over to the dark side. :)
And the images can come out great, as you've proved.

Very interesting to know you can achieve that with a 12" DOB and a DSLR nevertheless!
You're right that it's necessary to state it's not a preferred imaging setup, but such great performance in capturing the brighter DSOs in color could be enough to enthuse many a school kid :) (or maybe this 32 year old kid is just projecting... :P)

Doesn't have to be that bright.

I've imaged mag 12 ngc7410 with this set up.
