Was imaging last night going for my best horsehead shot when all of a sudden i noticed donuts appearing on my horsehead images. Only captured 6 x 2minute shots before I had it and gave up. seems like the head appears much better with the IR Filter taken out.

Silly me all these time i have been taking images with the IR Filter. Looks like i have to retake all my images without it :P busyy busyy weekend.

In the end I realised the donuts were infact dust so i gave it a gentle blow and was gone but by then the horsehead faded behind my neighbours roof.

arghh well. Have to give it another go tomorrow.

Nite :P

Shame about the dust donuts - even with the donuts that's still a fantastic image of the horsehead. Well done!

Taking the IR filter out will help you on objects that are emitting strongly in the red (Ha) part of the visible spectrum like the horsehead, eta carina, and M42. Probably will not help on galaxies and star clusters.

Glad you got rid of your donuts but you'd better read up on flat fields!

They are some big cosmic donuts! Cleaning equipment is a pain. :mad2:
Great horsehead though.

Ezy that's a terrific HHead image mate, I'd be over the moon.
Don't worry about the donuts, you can give it another go, as long as you have you're technique perfected, there's always tomorrow.
Besides, if you show other people the image just tell them that you've discovered some new Black Holes.

Well done.

Maybe you were imaging the "double donut nebula" and a horse got in the way?

Nut, didn't think so.

Thanks Adam. I guess all red glowing objects i should take out the IR Filter. Stuff don't get flat field stuff
