Horse Head from Adelaide

A quick process of tonights data of the Horse Head from metro Adelaide. Halos are quite apparent around the brighter stars. Seems a common occurence with these cameras.

The details of the image is a follows,

Image : 10x10 minutes (plus darks, bias and flats)
Scope : ED120 with William Optics III 0.8x Reducer/Flattener
CCD : QHY8L at -15 degrees

Gotto love horsie pics :) But i would lay off blowing soap bubbles in front of the scope while your taking those pics.
Seriously tho, that's a lot of reflections. Do u normally get those ? Looks like some shiny bits in the light path hey :( If u can get rid of those that'll be a real keeper

Thanks for that Marcus. I only seem to get it on the Horse Head and on M42. But I do agree the reflections take away from the rest.

Nice Danny. Good colour and detail for Adelaide imaging; in fact is quite good given the light pollution.

The reflections are going to emminate from your reducer and sensor window. Two of the reflections seem very excessive to me and perhaps take a look in there for anything shiny. The flare cannot be really dealt with and will be a common feature with bright stars close by to the field.

Thanks for the tip Paul. I will inspect things tonight. Would be really nice to try and sort out the issue and take some new data. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of detail I was able to get from metro Adelaide, especially without using any light supression filters. Would be nice to get a clear weekend!

Nice work (apart from the reflections). It's good to see images from others in metro Adelaide. I think the time has come for me to think about upgrading to a modded dslr or take the plunge and get a ccd, particularly since all my current images are of emission nebulae.

Thanks for the comments Dan. I think I have mentioned to you previously that I was going to go down the route of a modded DSLr, but given the price of some of these One Shot Colour CCD, I ended up going down that path. It still blows me away that I could only go for 8 minutes with a Hutech filter/DSLR and the ED120 at f7.5, whereas now with the QHY8L, no light suppression filter and the scope at around f6, I am going 10 minutes.

Given the location and condition, nice image Danny!

There are number of different methods out there to try and remove halos and reflections. Here is one that I found useful.
Just be aware that this method does not work for every type of scenario, but I'm sure it wont hurt to try.

Very nice horsehead, especially from the city. My last attempt at this was also marred by blue reflections. It's one of the most photographed objects but it does present challenges.
