That is amazing. I hope they can preserve it permanently as a memorial to those still undiscovered.
Cheers

Living hell.
Then a grave - I'm so very sad.

Amazing.
I discovered a WWI 'Diary' under my carpet recently, in perfect condition. It was the hand-written manual/notebook of an Officer in Training, it details all his lectures including trench tactics, hygiene, behaviour management, the whole thing. I'm not sure what I should do with it really.

Very sad indeed, I hope they will be given a full military funernal and the site be made a permenant war memorial.

Peter,
I have contact with a curator of the War Memorial in Canberra. Do you want me to see if they're interested? I'm sure they would be
cheers

It is an English one, not Australian, so I'm not sure they would be interested, I don't know how it ended up under my carpet!
:eyepop: 94 years later wow.... so now im guessing they wont be going ahead with the new road building project

Take it to your local RSL (retain ownership) and they should be able to tell you more.

About thirty years ago whilst working on a sheep and wheat property in Northern Victoria I met a fellow (Jim) who was in France in 1914/ 18 and on Sunday's with a few beers he would talk of the war, there were a couple of things that he said that will stay with me for ever and one of them was that the large artillery shells would plug in the earth and then explode on a late fuse causing massive waves of mud that would fill every void (including trenches) as they went. A terrible outcome for the troops and one that I feel sure was unplanned by both sides.
Greg. :(
