Ha IC2944

Hi all,
haven't posted for a bit, obvious really with this wonderful weather:mad2:..
Been out doing bits on this and on that but no real finished products.

But had a chance on the weekend after updating my mount controller software to test. Miraculously there were no clouds so
got some time down on IC2944 and its famous bok globules.


Happy with the clarity of the two evenings as usually for me this time of the year, things
are like pea soup.
Only in Ha at the moment... must get an OIII filter soon, but at this stage will have to wait for the moon
and clouds to go for the rgb data.

As good as any Ha image of the area I have seen

It matches and may even exceed the Starfire data (http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/110268657/original) from a couple of years back :eyepop: try up sizing to match my data, would be interesting to see. This is not arrogance, that night was good seeing for me and for a 10" F4.6 Newt with large central obstruction and 200mm less FL, to match the resolution of the Worlds finest 6" APO is indeed fantastic!

If you could complete a full wavelength ordered palette (narrowband) version, it has the capacity to stand toe to toe with Martin Pugh's effort (http://www.martinpughastrophotography.id.a u/Nebulae/IC2944.htm) from 08 :clap:

I did a bit of a comparison in PS and if I up scale my image to 200% it matches closely to yours.
I'd say they are both on a par my friend. Some of the very smaller dark Boks on yours are better resolved than on mine and then vice versa..
I guess with my obstruction of 31%, this would equate to a clear aperture of around 7" or there abouts.
I think if I had pristine conditions (ah 3 nights in the year and lucky to be in the south) then I could have gone deeper.... perhaps:P
But as it stands, I was quite happy with the results:D

was testing new controller software which had a better pointing model and it worked beautifully so was very happy with the result. :)Plus the two nights were clear... something I've not seen in the past month:sadeyes:

Yes, it's amazing that they are detached, usually Boks are generally in the vicinity of heavy HII clouds..

WOW Rich, exceptional sharpness and detail :eyepop: I love it, on my to-do list too. About the crappy weather, I share your frustration. December and January offered really little chances of imaging even from Coona.. let's hope this fall will be better..

Nice work Rich, smooth image with great detail. The Thackery's globules are pretty cool to see in the image. When I imaged it I found I could a three dimensional shadowing on the globules.

When do we see the colour?

Yeah love the way they float out in the middle of the expanse.....

Mmm, colour well, if all things are ok on the WE, maybe then. But there is a hell of a lot of high cirrus cloud that's been floating through on the past three nights here.. pretty much the same for tonight unfortunately..
Well I say this as I sip my first of many Pale Ales...:D Work debriefing night:lol:
There is always compensation for poor conditions, if only to kill some of the pain :thumbsup:
