Newcastle people, where are dark skies?

Newcastle/hunter members, if I want to be able to see the milky way clearly, how far out of town do I need to go? I live in New Lambton, so basically right in the city. Keen to drive out to the nearest pretty dark spot on the next clear night. Let me know where is good!

if you go to dungog area it get reasonably dark

A bunch of us are going to Bretti Reserve in a couple of weeks.
It is not far from Gloucester and very dark (and Free Camping)

If the weather does not permit, you are welcome at the Mangrove Mountain (Pony Club) any Saturday near New Moon (see star parties threads).

Closer to home, I understand there is a regular Newcastle observing site.
I think it used to be at the wetlands but not sure if still or conditions.
