Help!
First image was intended to be one of 4 * 15 minute subs with Canons own noise reduction applied so no darks. During the course of the session though, a huge amount of due coupled with the dew controller parting company with the power cable, an overtight cable affecting one image and causing trails and a rather bright moon resulted in just one usable 15 minute sub.
Minimal processing in PS elements for basic curves and mid tones but nothing else.
Image was 1 * 15 minutes at ISO 800 with auto noise reduction applied in camera (Canon 30D) with the SW ED 80 and a 0.8 focal reducer through a CLS filter.

2nd Image is an odd one. This is basically 59 minutes of abandoned subs from that original session,(you know how it is, you stick your hand down the side of the sofa and up comes a wadge of cash) stacked in DSS and processed in DSS for basic RGB levels, saturation (14%)and luminescence (30%) but the colours are very different to the original sub

Which is the right colour!!! Will the correct tones for a nebula on an unmodded Canon please stand up!!

BONUS SECTION

By the way, for those interested in the Canon v Nikon argument...when I first got the canon I did the pepsi challenge, 1 * 10 minute sub of Eta for the Canon and one for a Nikon D200, both taken on the same night. Both cameras were launched at roughly the same time and both were aimed at the same market. see below for results

Hi David,

Nice photos. I like your 2nd Eta C best.

Nice comparison of Nikon and Canon.

The earlier Nikons like the D200 were hopeless for astro work. My cousin had a Nikon D200 that he attached to his ED80 and his shots were similar to yours..way too much amp glow and little detail when compared to the Canon 350d that I was using at the time.

However, the current Nikons I believe have improved considerably in their low light, long exposure performance and now match the Canons.

Good luck.

Ross.
