Moon Shot 3 Feb 2012

Was testing my old mount after a strip down and re-grease and modification. Noticed the moon was looking pretty nice, and took a few shots - William Optics Megrez 72, Canon 5dII. Focus by dead reckon using live view.

Thats a great Image David, smooth over the Seas and sharp on the mountainous areas, good shadings too.
Processing is great, tho only thing I could see is the over exposed/processed Limb edge ? the exposure looks quite ok, so maybe the bright edge crept in during processing ? Not 100% sure, if it is noticeable in the oridginal then it will need watching during processing ? ?
Not a major issue tho, That is a great looking Lunar capture.

Great image David, I found re-greasing my mount made a huge difference.

For a full moon wide-view the wide-field refractors are really nice, well done on this.

There is a slight over-exposure around the edge of the bright section of the moon, this has happened to me as well. On the last image taken I managed to remove it through processing but for the life of me I can remember. I don't really take notes on these things due to many other commitments.

Thanks for the advice, I didn't really notice that the limb was overexposed. Went back to the original, it is there as well. So back to the PC for another processing session (translation - pushing buttons and moving sliders until it looks better!)



Thanks. It's amazing, its like chalk and cheese. This particular mount was essentially siezed solid with that stuff that synta call grease, now it tracks like a champ.



Thanks for the compliment. Very little processing, just played with the curves and histogram to bring out some more detail. The initial shots were well overexposed, but the detail around the terminator is excellent. If I can work out the process, I might try and integrate these in to a HDR shot - something that works well with terresterial images, not sure how it will go with astro stuff.
