Finally a clear night in Sydney! Tested a new 120mm Skywatcher refractor on some close/tough doubles. Optics are very good for an achromat. Used a 10mm Plossl eyepiece and x2 Barlow. Could split Eta Orionis easily. Beta Muscae appeared as two white globes just touching. Also saw the Pup.
Another one some may not know about is Alnitak (Zeta Orionis/ STF774) one of the belt stars in Orion. It has a wide easy 8.5 magnitude component, but more challenging for small apertures is the mag 3.9 component at 2".4, PA 165 degrees. Image attached - taken with a Imaging source DBK21AU04.AS.
Thanks for looking.
