Going troppo. Rain....and...well, more rain on the East Coast.:rain:
Decided to purge my office of unwanted papers & found an external hardrive under a pile of books...it had some interesting & rather old, but reasonably high resolution(!) H-alpha data I forgot about....

Simply spectacular.

Hmmm. My Baader 7nm Ha filter doesn't give images of the keyhole like that?
I hope there are more idle rainey moment down that way if this is what we'll get to see Peter.

That's easy, you're probably not running a 35mm sensor at around 5 metres focal length ;)
Ah! One who appreciates "the light" :) Thanks H!

Awesome resolution, that's a nice find! Wish I had data like that just lying around on forgotten hard drives...

Yeesss.... I remember that one. You had an LRGB one as well I recall with a HDR composite of the homunculus. I love this region in high-res. There is a narrowband version made with the HST that I always drool over. Yours is as close as it gets to the real thing. Very cool.

Great photo Peter.
Amazing detail and I love the full tonal range.
Thanks.
Ross.

Top image Peter. You can always judge the quality of Ha keyhole pictures by how clear that dark nebula that looks like it's giving you the finger is and yours is as sharp and clear as I've ever seen it.
Cheers

Yes, looking at the date stamp it was taken around the same time. I saved more data to the external drive (must try and find the colour stuff for a re-pro :) )
Thanks.
Thanks. I enjoy H-Alpha. I can have an arty look you just don't get with full colour.
Appreciate your feedback Steve. Ah yes, one must always look for the fickle finger! :D

Thanks Louie. Eagle eved observers will realise I've been tinkering with the data since my first posting of the image.
Some sharpening, some smoothing, SD clip stack etc.
In short multiple (but un-announced) re-pro's..... OK There are some sharpening artifacts...but I like the dynamics better now.:)

Glad you like it Marco. Unfortunately I didn't discover some more colour data
...but am very happy with the old/new discovery
