Nikon Image Bands

When I push the ISO up to 1600 on a D700 during a very warm evening (mid to high 20degrees) the image has four bands with slightly different background colour. This almost entirely disappears after images are stacked (flats, darks and dark bias). Same problem with camera on battery power and 12V supply so not power related. Heavily stretching images at ISO 640 will show a similar banding but much less distinct.Is this typical of the Nikon sensors or is there a setting I am missing.

You can't avoid that in summer. The hotter the worse it will get.

I was testing my D70 in preparation for some time-lapse work. Doing a run of continuous 30 second exposures the left hand side of the camera got quite warm (30-40 degrees).

When I was shooting astrophotography with a DSLR, the images in summer were far noisier than the winter ones.

Doesn't seem to affect Alex with his time lapses though - he has shot many with a D700 at ISO3200, although his exposures are usually 30secs.

I don't get the problem on the D90, but do on the d700. Perhaps some cooling may be in order.
Post a pic though so we can take a look.
