It's become a bit of a tradition over the last four years, to don the hiking gear and/or cycling gear and set off for the roof of Australia at 2228 metres above sea level. In 2009, I set off with two others. in 2010 I took 22 people up. In 2011 it was 19 and this year it was a hardened bunch of five.

We were met by a magnificent day of cool breezes and patchy cloud. The weather forecasts were a bit touch-and-go for a while, but we stuck it out and were rewarded.

1 The gang this morning on the top of Mount Kosciuszko for dawn. I love the way the sunlight came through the flag and formed a cross right behind the southern cross on the flag!

2 Sunset from the top 25th Jan (Last night)

3 Just arrived on the summit.

4 The gang of walkers and riders about to embark

5 Sunset last night.

What flash and flash settings did you use?

580EXII on 24mm zoom bare flash no modifier. It was a bit harsh, but all I had on me. Can't remember the power level I had it at. I moved it back a bit to spread the cone of light.

That first shot with the sunset forming a glowing cross on the flags cross is a killer shot there Barry, great timing to be there for that.

Great shots Baz

I like the glowing southern cross.

It's sad as you say though that people cant accept it as one of those shots that is "right place, right time and right angle" and nothing more.

Cheers

A wonderful set of images. Thanks Barry.

Have you ever done any astrophotos up there? I have often wondered what the seeing is like there.

Greg.

Last year and this year it was overcast. 2009 I did a pretty simple video and timelapse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jG0O5tw4ZS0&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL) from the summit with my old 400D and 18-55mm kit lens.
