Hi,
you no doubt remember that 60's TV show, Lost In Space, well I was reading an interesting article about Guy Williams, who played Professor John Robinson (and Zorro in the 50's).

In real life he was an avid amateur astronomer and had a 6" reflector mounted on his balcony.

Each clear night he & his family would observe for hours and the next day on the set of Lost in Space he would explain with enthusiasm to the Cast, what they had seen, such as the polar caps on Mars and cloud bands on Jupiter etc.

I saw too, in the late 70s(?) Celestron ran adds with Star Trek's Leonard Nimoy advertising their 8" Sct. Cassegrains, with him saying something like he uses Celestron whenever he wants to leave Earth....something like that.

So, there you go, a bit of light hearted fun to relieve the cloudy weather blues.

cheers
Ian B

"Dr. Smith, are you sure we can do this?"
"Of course I'm sure, my boy, we can use the 4mm eyepiece with the 3x Barlow and that will help us see through this blasted fog!"
"Dr. Smith, you are using the..."
"Shut up you bubble headed booby, I know exactly what I'm doing!"
"Robot, can I take a photo of that moon?"
"Danger, danger...there is danger Will Robinson...the telescope is not polar aligned!"
"Fiddle sticks...never fear...Smith is here!"

"Spock, what do you make of this?"
"Scanners indicate an optical device, captain."
"Optical?...hmmm...is it spying on us?"
"Negative, captain!"
"How can you be so sure, Spock?"
"Logic....it still has the lens cap on. Ask our two opticians."
"Of course...Celeste, Ron...what do you make of this?"
"It is not im-MEADE-iately obvious captian."

:P
