Clouds again down here under down under so I played with my data from my first proper hit out with the home modified Canon 450D, 8 inch reflector and CGEM.
Stacked in DSS, processed in Startools and Paint.net.
About fifty minutes of lights with calibration frames, ISO 1000, ambient temperature 15'c, frames 180 secs.
Guided with SSAG and mini guide scope.

Cheers for looking, for any advice!

Great first light with the new gear!

Might just be the way it was saved as a low-res compressed jpeg, but it looks like the black is clipping slightly. The sky is never perfectly black, but slightly greyish.

Also looks just slightly noisy. Again it could be the way it's saved or it could be lack of exposure (yeah these things take ages). A little Gaussian blurring or median filtering could be just what's needed.

Regardless it's an impressive image from my perspective, well done!

Cheers,
Cam

Hey Graham,

Great data, with great potential.
Cam is right in that it seems you clipped your data in the red channel somehow. The green and blue channels seem offset by about 12% of unity (full brightness), while the red is not, lending a green/bluish tint to the background.
Keep an eye on your histogram if you're using traditional photo software like Paint.NET to touch up your image.

Cheers,
