Hi all, its been a little while, but need help!!:eyepop:
I have my eye on a scope for sale. Its a 10" Skywatcher, however it is being sold without a mount, my question is as the header states, which mount would best suit this size scope? I was looking at either a EQ2 or EQ3, but wasnt sure if either of these mounts would be sturdy enough for the task at hand. Budget restraints have me looking at these style mounts, so i really hope one of them would be suitable, but thats why i have turned to you guys for the good advice and experience!!!!

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, if it's a solid tubed 10" newt you'll need an eq6 at least.

Very interesting someone would sell you a scope without a mount. It's a Newtonian I take it?
If you want to do things on the cheap (and handy with tools), try make a Dobsonian mount for it. There are a number of plans freely available on the net.
If you are after an EQ mount, an EQ5 or EQ6 would be better. EQ2 and 3 won't be up to the task.
Welcome to your second mortgage :lol::lol:

for a 10" Newton I would recomend a Dobsonian mount as Newtons have the eyepiece on the side of the front and with an eq mount you will have to look through it mostly from above (which requires a little ladder) or from underneath (which makes kneeling on the grass) unless you rotate the tube everytime you slew to another target.

a 10" Newton is pretty large and heavy (plus eypiece, finder etc) and requires about 10kg counterweights to be balanced on an eq mount+its got a large surface that is easily pushed by wind resulting in shakes that affect high power observing awefully.

I recommend nothing less than an eq6.

:) I agree , an eq2 or 3 would not be up to the job , all you will get is frustration .
I have an eq2 under my 60mm scope and its perfect and owned a celectron HD102 refractor and its eq3 was just sturdy enough .
Are you sure you need an eq mount? how about knocking up a dob mount for starters  , at least you will be observing for less than $100 and saving your dollars for a sweet 2nd hand EQ6 that pop up here all the time .
10 inches it a great size , hang in there and good luck .
Just a thought .
