Ok, based on mikes suggestion of harder treatment on the "create reference" stage and less frames stacked, I have gone thru each colour and stacked 150 frames. No unsharp mask.

I also dropped the gamma more for this one.

very happy, now just need a great seeing night.

Feels good

Yes, thats my kind of processing, I like the darker contrasty heavy handed look!

You need your own plane, 8/10 here tonight! but I gotta work damn it! So I won't be tempted.

Well done!

both fine shots Dave  , each has nice qualities, though my preference is probably for the less heavily processed shot on the left - contrast not as much, but think it looks more natural like the view at the eyepiece. The one on the right is more visually striking from an all over point of view, but it tends to ovewhelm some of the more suble detail.

Guess a lot of this is in the eye (and I just remembered, PC screen) of the beholder.:D

cheers,

Very nice! The image scale is HUGE!

Obviously the one with less frames is more grainy, I guess that's expected given the conditions, the image scale and the processing. But it does highlight the detail more.

On a great night of seeing, where you can stack more frames, it's going to be awesome.

Great job.
