LMC at 200mm.

Hi,

Slowly working through different focal lengths with the standard lens kit my Canon 1100D comes with.
I think they do a reasonablee job.

lens 75 to 300 zoom at 200mm f/6.3 ISO 3200.

6 x 120 light frames 2 darks.
Processed in DSS and Photoshop.

Looks good Justin. You will get a wide range of objects with 75-300 mm variation.

Nice pic Justin especially with a basic kit lens.
I have been looking for one but the only kit lenses i can find in this range show a max of f5.6. But you took it at f6.3, am i missing something or is there a kit lens that goes beyond 5.6 ?

Peter don't know what to tell you about the lens kit, other than it came with the Canon 1100D. I guess they constantly change the features available.

Hopefully someone more experienced can reply with info on current lenses.

200mm at f/6.3 sounds about right.....the f/5.6 is the maximum f stop for that lens. If you wanted, you could run it at f/5.6 for the 200mm but you'd have to set it in your bulb mode in manual. That's what he's done, Peter. Just set the f stop in manual mode by taking it down a notch.

Thanks guys, of course he just stopped it down :screwy:. I was not thinking too clearly when i penned the question, had a good lunch. I had wanted to buy a telephoto but had looked beyond the cheaper kit lenses because of bad reviews. However I really cannot afford a good Canon L series and after seeing Justin's photo it has convinced me to at least start my efforts with one of these.

Peter, have a look at the telephotos in the Sigma range, or the Tokina range. They have some brilliant glass that won't break the bank:):).

just a question though, what are the elements that make up a good astro image?
Iv'e been looking at alot of images posted on ISS, and a lot of them look good, but in no way do I feel qualified to comment on them.
