Hi guys,

Inspired by Rigel003's image of the horse head and with new baader 7nm filter in hand I aligned and slewed the scope to the horse head. I decided on 10 minute subs purely guessing and went for it. Shooting 10 subs and using only 5 this is my effort. There was considerable issues with guiding, that I am not too worried about because I have an OAG sitting here waiting for an adaptor in the mail.

Very happy with the way this came out for only 50 minutes of exposure, now if I can keep the stars still for a bit longer next time I should make a cracker of an image.

Hi Peter, definitely got the exposure down pat, For 10 minutes unguided that is quite impressive, There is no way I could do that. Anyway once the beast arrives you should come up with what you want.

Thanks guys, this picture was more of a test than anything else. I didnt take any calibration frames and would love to sink more time into it. I think it would flatten out most of the details more with more time. With proper guiding I think this would be alot sharper.

Well done, Peter. For only five 10 min subs, that's a great result. Once you get your guiding under control it will be sharper and you can go longer. If your mount can handle it, try for 15 min subs. The filter doesn't let much light through so this will help your S/N ratio. It's amazing what an Ha filter can achieve under light polluted skies and moonlight. Enjoy using it.

When I get my off axis guiding working which should be some time this week, I hope to shoot for 15 minute subs. The filter sure blocks alot of light, I went from 100 stars in a 5 minute sub ( of the horse head with luminance filter ) to 20 stars in a 10 minute sub with the same detection setting in DSS.

I do see why people go for the EQ6 now I am semi regretting the heq5 purchase. None the less I will do the best I can with what I have.
