Without a doubt, this planet is the hardest to get nice colouring with the setup I'm using :eyepop: But not impossible ;)

Seems I get better results shooting @ 5FPS rather than 10 even though I have less frames to stack in the 90 secs I capture for.

I think this is about 200 frames stacked. Looks heaps over-processed & the colours are not right, but I shall persevere!! :D

No filtering.

A good effort. You're soooo right about trying to get the colour out of the old boy.
Which scope did you use?

Oh yes, sorry JJJ. The 6" refractor & toucam.

Again Asi you've supassed anything I could get from my 6inch acro, tons of detail on this one, GRS spot detail, festoons, white spot storms and a moon! Well done

Well thank you kind sir! I have plenty of others taken throughout the morning with 3 moons & no GRS that I may post later.

Robert, can your elaborate a bit *on* that statement?

>> "Again Asi you've supassed anything I could get from my 6inch acro"<<

Basically the same telescopes, I'm interested as to why/how I have surpassed you?

I should be asking you this question. ;) Asi, how come you get better pics from your 6in acro than I ever managed?

I guess there's bound to be some differences in quality in optics, while probably made in the same Chinese factories a company like Meade might have better quality control in selecting their scopes than say the Saxon branded one I have.

That said, I reckon the key (to your credit) is that you've perservered with the scope and built up a much more refined skillset around getting the best capture and post-process results with it. I've had two stints of a few months each imaging with this scope last year, but each time had my eye on getting back to a reflector so I didn't have to work so hard on screening our false colour, colour alignment etc etc. Your Saturns I find particularly impressive, I never got anything nearly as good.

Anyway, with those skills and a bit of adaptation to this new SCT world (eg collimation) you should be well on your way to some pretty special pics :D

cheers,

Thanks for that. With the refractor, each planet requires it's own special capture parametres it seems. I'm actually not having much trouble at all with CA but more so with 'RGB split' halo caused by atmospheric conditions!

Matt was having trouble with this also, which determined it wasn't my refractor or his SCT or skywatcher 8". (or collimation)

So I guess working out each subjects capture settings is the key?

You may also be interested to know for this joop pic I used an aperture mask...& I have plenty of AVI's captured on the same night at full aperture to suggest jupiter LIKES being captured this way, lol.

Thanks for your input mate.
